All teaching activities will be held in Croatian. However, foreign students in mixed groups will have the opportunity to attend additional office hours with the lecturer and teaching assistants in English to help master the course materials. Additionally, the lecturer will refer foreign students to the corresponding literature in English, as well as give them the possibility of taking the associated exams in English.

Description:
COURSE AIMS AND OBJECTIVES:
The review of scientific notions in the area of developmental psychology, from conception to death. The basics of developmental psychology are necessary in order to understand the educational process. The emphasis is on the period of childhood and youth, but the entire development of life is submitted as the assumption for a life-long education.

COURSE DESCRIPTION AND SYLLABUS:
Introduction to developmental psychology (The history of developmental theories, inborn (indigenous), empiric approaches, the longitudinal and transverse resarch plans.)
Conception, prenatal period, newborn, infant-Periodization , part 1 ( the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development.)
The presumptions for the development of a healthy person (Genetic and non-genetic factors which influence the development of the fetus, birth and possible lesion(damages) of the baby, a proper diet as a presumption for a person's healthy development. The child's emotional acceptance, the environmental influence on early development.)
Early childhood, preschool and school age, Periodization part 2 (the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development.)
Early developmental disorders (Mental retardation, learning disorders /reading, writing, mathematical abilities/, communication disorders /language expression, stammering/, lack of attention, hyperactive disorders, behaviour disorders, obstinacy and ¸opposition disorders, their cosequences regarding learning and success in school.)
Developmental tests (The basis for the evaluation of an orderly development in chilhood. Maturity tests for primary shool enrolment. The review of procedures for the evaluation of developmental disorders.)
The development of self-concept ( The development of self-concept. The development of self-respect. The review of the theory of moral judgement and moral development.)
Youth (Adolescence) - Periodization, part 3 (the physical development, puberty, physical maturity.)
Youth (Adolescence), part 2 (the social and emotional development in youth. Sources of stress. Motivation to learn.)
Early adulthood and adulthood - Periodization, part 4 (the end of schooling, creating a family, adulthood and career development, mid-life crisis. The physical, cognitive, emotional and social development.)
Late adulthood and old age - Periodization, part 5 (Late years of adulthood, retirement, adjustement to retirement. The physical,cognitive, emotional and social development.)
Pre- old age period and old age - Periodization part 6 (Pre-old age period, old and very old people, the the last years of life, death. Physical changes, health problems and illnesses. Changes regarding the cognitive functions.)
Intelligence and success in school and in life (Cognitive development in youth. Intelligence as the basis for learning and understanding the subject-matter. The relation between intelligence and success in school. The intellectual changes from the point of view of growing old.)
Personality Disorders (The prerequisites for the diagnostics, development, prevailing, the differences in regard to sex, the description of all personality disorders.)
