COURSE AIMS AND OBJECTIVES:
The understanding of scientific concepts about the structure of personality, about the individual differences regarding abilities and non-cognitive dimensions of the personality, understanding the role of heredity and the environment in the development of individual differences, understanding the consequences of individual differences regarding the education with a special emphasis on the educating of people with special needs(handicapped students and talented students).
COURSE DESCRIPTION AND SYLLABUS:
The subject-matter and the development of Educational Psychology: educational psychology as a field in psychology; the subject-matter of educational psychology; the effect of experimental research in natural sciences on the development of experimental psychology and educational psychology; the founders of educational psychology
The Concept of Personality and ways of researching personality: psychoanalytical theory of personality, behaviouristic approach, the social study approach, the theory of personality traits; the relationship between the temperament, character and personality concepts.
The Humanistic approach in Personality Psychology: the motive of self-realization and its relationship towards other motives; "the universal development of personality" and the self-realization as alternative goals in education; the review of the humanistic theory of personality in view of recent discoveries regarding human nature.
The Personality Structure: the concept of personal characteristics; the cognitive and non-cognitive area of personality; "the universal development personality"- myth or reality.
Individual differences and measuring standards: the distribution of biological and non-biological variables in the population; intelligence variations; mental retardation and talent; individual differences in the emotional and conative traits of the personality.
Heredity and the environment in the genesis of individual differences; the concept of genotypes and phenotypes; the fundamental studies regarding the role of hereditary and the environment on the development of cognitive abilities; the fundamental studies regardig the role of heredity in the development of conative characteristics.
The Educational consequences of individual differences in intelectual abilities: children wth special needs: the education of people with slight mental retardation; teaching the gifted and the creative; programme individualization and teaching individualization.
The Educational consequences of individual differences in conative characteristics: about the human nature; atruism and aggressiveness; individual differences in educability; the education of "difficult individuals", the possibilities of resocialization.
The Development of moral conscience and the theories of moral development: the concept of morality, the psychoanalytical theory of moral development, the cognitive theory of moral development and its review, the theory of social learning, the integrative theory of moral development.
School and Moral development: why are schools concentrated more on education than on upbringing; the impact of out of school means of socialization; the priority in evaluating achievements in education, the restrictions in the disposal of proof.
