COURSE AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: The goal of the seminar is to enable students to use heuristic strategies and methods in researching and solving problems related to high school mathematics, linear algebra and differential calculus of functions in individual and/or team work. Topics are chosen to enable students, future math teachers, to affirm problems and interests as basic principles of math teaching at all educational levels.
COURSE DESCRIPTION AND SYLLABUS:
Seminar - Inquiry based learning and problem solving will be held as active - problem solving and heuristic teaching. Students will individually and/or in groups work on given mathematical problems, present their strategies and solutions in written and oral form to other participants of the seminar, and discuss various solutions. The discussed topics will be based on high school math, linear algebra and differential calculus of functions. The work will be separated in the following phases:
1. Mathematical problems. Historical development and theoretical frame of inquiry based learning and problem solving. Guided research. Examples.
2. Research and solving the problems.
3. Presentations of results.
