All teaching activities will be held in Croatian. However, foreign students in mixed groups will have the opportunity to attend additional office hours with the lecturer and teaching assistants in English to help master the course materials. Additionally, the lecturer will refer foreign students to the corresponding literature in English, as well as give them the possibility of taking the associated exams in English.

Description:
COURSE AIMS AND OBJECTIVES:
Physics 1 is structured as a first part of two semester course in modern physics. Number of topics in mechanics will be discussed, mainly relevant for understanding theory of relativity. Teaching method will be more conceptual and only basics of differential calculus and vector algebra is required. Beside conventional lectures numerical exercises and demonstration experiments will bi provided for better illustration of most recent concepts in modern physics knowledge.

COURSE DESCRIPTION AND SYLLABUS:
1. Kinematics - motion in gravitational field, circular motion.
2. Dynamics - Newton's laws of motion; Newton's low of gravitation.
3. Conservation of momentum - inertial and non inertial reference frames.
4. Galileo's and Lorentz's transformations.
5. Energy Conservation - work, energy, power.
6. Rotation of rigid bodies - moment of inertia, angular velocity, angular momentum
7. Simple harmonic oscillator - body on spring, pendulum.
8. Damped oscillations.
9. Inverse square distance forces.
10. Relativistic dynamics.
11. Ideal gasses - statistical implementation of Newton's lows, temperature.
12. First and second low of thermodynamics.
