All teaching activities will be held in Croatian. However, foreign students in mixed groups will have the opportunity to attend additional office hours with the lecturer and teaching assistants in English to help master the course materials. Additionally, the lecturer will refer foreign students to the corresponding literature in English, as well as give them the possibility of taking the associated exams in English.

Description:
Introduction, division and definition of quantitative chemical analysis, numerical parameters of quantitative analysis, phases of quantitative analysis. Fundamentals of sampling, basic statistical parameters. Sample preparation, Methods of sample dissolution and destruction. Wet chemistry methods: gravimetric and titrimetric methods. electromagnetic spectrum, spectrometric methods, absorption and emission methods, other methods. Electroanalytical methods, fundamentals of redox reactions. Fundamentals of X-ray diffraction, X-ray spectrum, X-ray - matter interaction. X-ray powder method, theory, instrumentation, qualitative phase analysis, Powder Diffraction File, principles of quantitative analysis. X-ray fluorescence analysis. Fundamentals of electron microscopy. Thermal analysis.

Learning outcomes:

Knowledge and understanding of the scientific and technical terminology in the domain of analytical chemistry.
Basic knowledge of both the fundamental as well as modern analytical methods in chemistry.
The basic ability to analyse the results of chemical analysis by means of statistics.
Knowledge and understanding of X-ray generation and their interaction with matter (diffraction and fluorescence).
Knowledge and understanding of analytical techniques based on X-ray diffraction and fluorescence.
Capability of phase determination from X-ray powder pattern by comparison with data base.
