All teaching activities will be held in Croatian. However, foreign students in mixed groups will have the opportunity to attend additional office hours with the lecturer and teaching assistants in English to help master the course materials. Additionally, the lecturer will refer foreign students to the corresponding literature in English, as well as give them the possibility of taking the associated exams in English.

Description:
1. Aquatic systems, global cycle of water, sedimentary rocks - composition and origin
2. Major components of sediments,
3. chemical weathering of rocks, weathering agents,
4. limestones - solubility, buffering in carbonate solutions,
5. siliciclastic sediments - solution,
6. clay minerals as heavy metal carriers in aquatic systems,
7. soil formation and its importance for surface environment,
8. river water, total dissolved solids
9. Eh/pH conditions in natural environments,
10. organic matter in rivers and sediments,
11. iron and manganese in surface environment, oxidation - reduction reactions,
12. sediments/soils as metal repositories, metalo-organic complexes, selective extraction analysis,
13. early diagenesis, diagenetic mobilization of trace metals,
14. geochemical mapping of surface environment, sampling media,
metal contamination of sediments and soils (case studies in the context of industrial and ore mining processes).
