Description:
Earthquake cycle: classical and alternative models of characteristic and random earthquakes. What controls ruptures and hypocenters: fault asperities, barriers, flats and ramps. Displacement variations along a fault, fault growth and fault segmentation. Relations between fault rupture parameters and earthquake magnitude. Keynote examples from seismically active regions in Croatia and worldwide characterized by compressional, extensional and strike-slip tectonics.
