Instabilities on mesoscale. Linear perturbation theory and different types of waves. Internal gravity waves. Orographically-induced mesoscale processes. Linear and nonlinear analytic solutions for terrain-induced flows. Lee-side circulations and lee-side cyclogenesis. Mesoscale precipitation systems and orographic precipitation. Thermal circulation in complex terrain. Mesoscale observations - aircraft, radar, lidar, surface mesonetworks - and observational data analysis. Numerical modeling of mesoscale processes and predictability.
