COURSE GOALS: Acquire basic knowledge of the manufacturing technologies, dimensioning rules, symbols and designation, system of tolerances and fits, simplified representations and complete outfitting of technical documentation.
LEARNING OUTCOMES AT THE LEVEL OF THE PROGRAMME:
1. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
1.3. demonstrate a thorough knowledge and understanding of basic concepts in techniques
2. APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
2.2. identify and describe important aspects of techniques and their applications
3. MAKING JUDGMENTS
3.2. develop clear and measurable learning outcomes and objectives in teaching based on curriculum goals
3.3. reflect on and evaluate their own practice of teaching
4. COMMUNICATION SKILLS
4.1. communicate effectively with pupils and colleagues
5. LEARNING SKILLS
5.1. search for and use professional literature as well as any other sources of relevant information
LEARNING OUTCOMES SPECIFIC FOR THE COURSE:
Upon passing the course on Technical Documentation 2 the student will be able to:
1. analyse common part and suggest combination of technologies needed for manufacturing;
2. properly dimension the part according to the suggested manufacturing processes;
3. present the part in a simplified form;
4. recognize and interpret symbols of tolerances, fits and surface roughness;
5. distinguish symbols of the most common welding joints and recognize the symbols of geometrical tolerances;
6. produce complete technical drawing of an assembly or single part.
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
1. Review of the Technical Documentation 1 topics.
2. Sections, cuts and their designation.
3. Manufacturing technologies - turning, drilling and milling.
4. Manufacturing technologies - forming.
5. Dimensioning standard ISO 129 - basic principles.
6. Technological dimensioning
7. Dimensioning standard ISO 129 - rules and application.
8. Dimensioning standard ISO 129 - specificity.
9. Designation of surface roughness on technical drawings.
10. Designation of geometrical tolerances on technical drawings.
11. Tolerances and fits on production and assembly drawings.
12. Recommendations for form representation.
13. Simplified representation in general, screws, gears, springs, etc.
14. Outfitting technical drawings - production drawings.
15. Outfitting technical drawings - assembly drawings.
Exercises and seminars are following lectures by content.
REQUIREMENTS FOR STUDENTS:
Students must attend lectures and exercises, solve home assignments, make at least 10 freehand cross sections of a given objects from the exercise book, solve at least 50 percent of three written preliminary exams each and solve two design assignments (single part and assembly).
GRADING AND ASSESSING THE WORK OF STUDENTS:
Grading and assessing the work of students during the semesters:
* Three written preliminary exams
* Home works (prerequisite)
* Freehand cross section drawings
* Design assignment (single part)
Grading at the end of semester:
* Oral presentation of the second design assignment.
Contributions to the final grade:
* 45 percent of the grade is carried by the results of the three written exams
* 5 percent of the grade is carried by the average results of cross section drawings
* 20 percent of the grade is carried by the result of the first design assignment
* 30 percent of the grade is carried by the result of the second design assignment and oral presentation
Final grade "excellent" can not be awarded if any of the partial grades is equal to "sufficient".
