Description:

The goal of the course is to give overview and understanding of mostly spread standard nuclear methods in medical diagnostics. Theoretical content will be complemented by laboratory work on relevant detectors, electronics and software packages, and with visits to clinics and hospitals.
The content of the course divided in topics: types of radiation and interaction of radiation with matter. Biological effects of radiation. Detection of radiation and protection. Basic types of radiation detectors for medical applications. Production of isotopes for medical diagnostics. Physics of X-rays and their medical applications. Gamma camera. Spectroscopy of positron annihilation; PET physical principles, detector systems, imaging, NMR - physical principles, detector systems, imaging.
