The Geography Students’ Club Zagreb (KSG Zagreb, Cro. Klub studenata geografije Zagreb) is a non-profit, non-governmental, and non-political organization of geography students at the University of Zagreb. The main goals of the organization are organizing and directing members toward attaining and achieving common, mainly geographic, interests and goals. The main idea of the KSG is based on promoting geography as science, as a teaching subject, and as a necessity of contemporary society.
How does the KSG work? Mainly by encouraging cohesion between students, and through lots of local popular and entertaining "geo"activities. These are, for example, sport tournaments, day or multi-day trips, motivation weekends and parties for freshmen. Apart from these traditional activities, the KSG also participates in international and expert activities, as an organizer or as a participant.
The most important role of the KSG is that, in addition to conventional study that includes visits to lectures and taking exams, students of geography are provided with additional support and opportunities, and also discover the fun side of studying and of geography as a profession.
The European Geography Association, abbreviated EGEA, is a European network of geography students and young geographers, with the intention of exchanging geographical knowledge. To achieve this, the entities of EGEA organize congresses, exchanges between the entities, national weekends, and excursions. They also publish the "European Geographer", magazine which gives anyone an opportunity to publish a paper or report from EGEA events. The main communication platform is the website (www.egea.eu). EGEA has several partnerships with organizations like EUROGEO, ISHA, GEODACH, IFISO, AEGEE, eestec, StudyPortals, and BEST. There is also strong cooperation with ESRI, a supplier of GIS programmes, and with the Utrecht University.
EGEA is divided into four administrative regions: the North & Baltic, the Eastern, the Western, and the Euro-Mediterranean regions. Our entity is a part of the Euro-Mediterranean region and is active in taking part in European geographical events.
The aims of EGEA are to offer personal development opportunities to young geographers across Europe, and enable them to fulfil their potential as young scientists. EGEA provides complementary and alternative learning opportunities, beyond formal education of geography. This is done by encouraging and enabling involvement in intercultural interaction, as well as by the development of academic, scientific, cultural, and professional activities designed for young geographers on the terms of equality, diversity, and non-discrimination.
