Basic objective: to acquire knowledge of spatial planning in general and of the importance of the city as an instrument of spatial planning and a focal point of spatial transformation. Further objectives: to familiarise students with the development of the doctrine of regional planning, the levels of regional and spatial planning, the problem of unequal regional development, the importance of the city in the organisation of space, city management mechanisms and city regions.

1. Concept and development of the doctrine of regional planning.
2. Levels of regional planning.
3. Development of regional planning in the world.
4. Unequal regional development.
5. Theory of polarized development.
6. Concept of development centers.
7. Center-periphery concept.
8. Concept of optimal and minimum city size. The concept of the optimal order of magnitude of the urban system.
9. The city as an instrument of regional planning.
10. The city as a focus of spatial transformation.
11. The meaning of the city in the functional organization of space.
12. Monocentric and polycentric city regions.
13. Management of the city and city regions.
14. Development and arrangement of large cities.
15. Arrangement of smaller urban agglomerations.
