COURSE CONTENT:
Synthesis of organic compounds (ligands), transition metal complexes, salts and cocrystals.
Hydrothermal synthesis. Mechanochemical synthesis. Recrystallization of prepared compounds.
Identification and characterization of prepared compounds: IR spectroscopy, thermal analysis, X-ray powder diffraction, single-crystal X-ray diffraction.
LEARNING OUTCOMES (Upon completion of the course student will be able to):
Use laboratory equipment and chemicals according to safety guidelines.
Assemble apparatus independently, according to instructions, while being familiar with the purpose of certain apparatus parts.
Perform experiments independently according to instructions.
Compare selected synthetic methods of inorganic chemistry.
Analyze and critically judge measured data.
Combine theoretical background with performed experiment.
Devise the method of synthesis, characterization and analysis of targeted (inorganic) compound.
Show the results of performed work in the form of a report.
Use scientific literature and other relevant sources of information which implies good knowledge of English as the universal language of science.
