The main goal of the course is to improve students' knowledge and competencies in the field of application of scientific data in effective management of natural resources. The specific objectives of the course are aimed at acquiring knowledge about the types of multiple stressors, and understanding the mechanisms of their action in different freshwater ecosystems. In addition, the course provides an overview of existing research and methods that allow understanding and predicting the interactive effects of stressors at different levels of biological organization. Furthermore, an overview of new methods and approaches (e.g. omics methods, DNA methods, use of social media, etc.) is given, as well as the possibilities of applying them in the biological monitoring of freshwater communities. It explains the main challenges in the practical management of freshwater ecosystems under the influence of multiple stressors, and provides an overview of the existing tools used for this purpose. |
