All teaching activities will be held in Croatian. However, foreign students in mixed groups will have the opportunity to attend additional office hours with the lecturer and teaching assistants in English to help master the course materials. Additionally, the lecturer will refer foreign students to the corresponding literature in English, as well as give them the possibility of taking the associated exams in English.

Description:
LEARNING OUTCOMES
- Formulare ecosystems components form and hierarchy
- Recognise physical environment influence on organisms
- Describe species interactions
- Identify population properties
- interpret life tables and survivorship
- observe difference between community and ecosistem
- Demonstrate main differences between terrestrial and freswater ecosistem fuctioning
- Employ knowledge of ecotone concept and habitat fragmentation

COURSE CONTENT
1.Physical environment: temperature; ecology of termoregulation
2. Species interactions: symbiosis, teritoriality and competition
3. Kin selection and Inclusive fitness in social animals, parasitism and mutualism
4. Migrations: why and how, ecologycal cosequence of migration.
5. Predation: optimal feedig theory.
6. The nature of the community: patterns in space and time: stability (MacArthur-Wilson theory)
7. Environmental stochasticity, stability and biodiversity.
8. Freshwater ecology: difference beetwen terrestrial and freshwater ecosystems
9. Ecology of subterranean ecosystems (part 1)
10. Ecology of subterranean ecosystems (part 2)
11. Ecotone and transition zones
12. Emergence
13. Ecology of captive animals: housing, and management, conservation and species reitroduction.
14. Aplication of ecology
