Description:
Learning outcomes: Education of trained personnel specialised for the independent investigations of bacterial consortia in polluted fresh waters, estimation of the bacteriological quality of fresh waters, estimation of the process of self-purification of water flows, estimation of the efficiency of wastewater treatment systems.
Course content: Bacteria indicators of water quality (coliforms, thermo-tolerant coliforms, faecal streptococci, sulphite-reducing clostridia). Intestinal pathogens as a factor of water pollution (hydric infections, ecology of intestinal bacteria in fresh waters with accent on the survival, changes of physiological and morphological characteristics in conditions of outer environment). Types and characteristics of wastewater. Biological wastewater treatment systems. Elimination of carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus, sulphur and heavy metals in wastewater treatment systems. Factors causing upset of wastewater treatment systems. Bioaugmentation.
