Ružica Vuk was born in Ludbreg on 26 February 1967. She attended primary school in Martijanec, secondary school in Ludbreg and Varaždin. In 1991, she graduated from the study of Geography and History at the Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb, where she received her Master’s degree in 2006 and her Doctorate in 2012. She received the associate title of senior research assistant in 2012, and of assistant professor in 2013. She also worked as a geography and history teacher in primary and secondary schools in Zagreb, and as a junior researcher and research assistant at the Department of Geography, Faculty of Science. She has been an assistant professor at the department since 2013, and later received the title of professor mentor and professor advisor. In 2003, she received recognition from the Ministry of Education and Sport for her high quality and creative work, and each year from 2011 – 2016, she received recognition from the students of the Faculty of Science for her excellent lectures.
At the Department of Geography, she teaches the courses: Teaching methods in geography II, Methodological exercises, Geography of Africa, Geography competitions, Historical geography of Croatia, and she co-teaches the course Use of computers in teaching geography. Since 2000 she has been a member of the National Committee for Geography Competitions, and from 2006 – 2020 she has chaired this committee. She is a member of several committees in the Department of Geography and at the Faculty of Science, the Executive board of the Croatian Geographic Society, Council coordination of PRIMATEH, member of the Croatian Academy of Educational Sciences, member of the Exam committee for expert examinations for intern teachers and geography teachers, member of the editorial board of Geografski Horizont, committee for the national Matura exit exam. She was a member of the organising committee of the 4th and 5th Croatian Geographic Congress, vice-chair of the organising committee of the scientific conference “Geography in the science and education system”, vice-president and president of the Croatian Geographic Society, Small Council of the Croatian Natural History Society, working groups for natural history and the social and humanism areas of the National Education Curriculum, and for the drafting of an all-encompassing part of the profession curricula of the Expert Working Group for curricular reform (2015 – 2017).
She has cooperated on eight expert projects, the scientific project “Space as a resource in Croatia’s tourism development” and multiple projects based on Croatian Science Foundation grants. She actively contributes to the professional development of geography teachers and professors as a lecturer and through numerous workshops. She has participated with abstracts at 15 scientific conferences in Croatia and 11 international conferences, published three scientific books, one book chapter and 17 scientific and many expert papers in domestic and international journals, as well as some 50 primary and secondary school textbooks and handbooks.
