Biography

Born in Karlovac on 20 November 1978. Graduated from the Department of Geography, Faculty of Science in 2004, and completed the postgraduate study programme Geographic basis of spatial planning in December 2011 with the defence of his doctoral dissertation “Geographic aspects of differences in precipitation variability between the continental and maritime pluviometric regime in the Republic of Croatia”.

In 2004 – 2005, he taught geography at the Technical, Trade and Hospitality secondary school in Karlovac. He joined the Department of Geography, Faculty of Science in 2005 as a junior researcher, and in 2011 was made a senior research assistant. In 2016, he was appointed an assistant professor. He teaches the courses Applied climatology, and Climate and tourism, and jointly teaches the courses Natural basis in tourism and Natural basis in spatial planning. He also teaches the course Landscape elements and dynamics at the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Zagreb.

He has participated in three scientific projects financed by the Ministry of Science and Education. He participates in University of Zagreb science grants, and in 2017 received a grant for the project “Classification of local climate zones in a city area: example of the City of Zagreb”. He is an associate on the Croatian Science Foundation projects “Effectiveness of real-time process of rapid geospatial data (RETROFIT)” and “Climate change and variability in Croatia – from global effects to local green solutions (CroClimGoGreen)”.

His research interests are in the field of climatology, particularly the influence of climate on natural and social processes in space, particularly the variability of precipitation and urban climates. He is author or co-author of 16 scientific papers in domestic and foreign scientific journals and anthologies. He has participated in 14 scientific conferences in Croatian and abroad. He was a member of the Organising committee of four scientific conferences, and on the Scientific committee of three scientific conferences. He was at the Department of Geography, Faculty of Philosophy, University of Ljubljana in 2014 as part of the Erasmus programme, and at the Institute for Geography and Spatial Planning, Faculty of Geography and Geology, Jagielonski University in Krakow, Poland in 2017 as part of the CEEPUS programme.

He is a member of the Croatian Geographic Society, and the International Geography Union (IGU – Commission on Water Sustainability). Since 2018, he has served as Vice-president of the Executive board of the Croatian Geographic Society, and that same year he was elected editor-in-chief of the professional journal Geografski Horizont. He was a member of the State Committee for school geography competitions for primary and secondary school pupils. He won the Young Scientist award in 2013, awarded by the Faculty Council of the Faculty of Science for achievements in scientific and expert work.
