The PhD students Josipa Kosić-Vukšić (Teaching Institute of Public Health dr. Andrija Štampar) and Marijana Pocrnić as well as scientists Adela Krivohlavek (Teaching Institute of Public Health dr. Andrija Štampar), Irena Žuntar (Faculty of Pharmacy and Biochemistry) and Nives Galić published an article Undeclared phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors (PDE5Is) in food supplements on the Croatian market analyzed by liquid chromatography time-of-flight mass spectrometry (LC-QTOF-MS) in Microchemical Journal (IF 4.9).

A new liquid chromatography method (LC-QTOF-MS) was developed and validated for determination of different phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors and applied for the analysis of 49 real samples of food supplements intended for people with erectile dysfunction. Method was successfully applied in the analysis of samples in different forms (capsule, tablet, powder, honey, oral liquid). In the 65 % of the samples two out of four targeted analytes of PDE5Is (tadalafil and sildenafil) were found, as well as their structural analogs, which were identified by high resolution mass spectrometry.
