Biography

NIKOLA RENIĆ (born in Zagreb on December 6, 1995) began studying biology and chemistry at the Faculty of Science and Mathematics of the University of Zagreb in 2014. During his studies, he was active at the Department of Molecular Biology for the duration of the second, third, and fourth years of study when he participated in the practical teaching of the Cell Biology course as a Student Assistant. During his studies, he participated in the Open Days of the Faculty at the Department of Biology and Chemistry. He graduated from the Division of Zoology of the Department of Biology under the guidance of Associate Professor Ph.D. Ivana Buj with the topic "Population structure and invasiveness of Scardinius erythrophthalmus (Linnaeus, 1758). in Prošćansko Lake". After graduation, he worked at the XVI Gymnasium in Zagreb as a biology and chemistry teacher, and at the beginning of 2022 he started working as a Research Assistant at the Division of Zoology, Biology Department, Faculty of Science of the University of Zagreb. In the same year, he enrolled in the Doctoral study in Biology, also at the Faculty of Science, as part of which he is writing a doctoral dissertation on the removal of dams and barriers on watercourses and their impact on trout migrations. He has a special interest in education, ecology and conservation biology. In the Laboratory for Vertebrate Zoology and Nature Protection, he works on numerous scientific and professional projects that deal with freshwater ichthyology, conservation biology and education and participates in the teaching of the courses Vertebrates, Fundamentals of Environmental Protection, Mariculture and Impact on Environment, Field Course, etc. In 2023, he became a representative of Research Assistants and Associates in the Council and the Colegium of the Biology Department. He also became a member of the Assembly of the Student Union of the University of Zagreb as a representative of doctoral students. He is the co-author of one research paper and has presented at multiple national and international conferences.
