All teaching activities will be held in Croatian. However, foreign students in mixed groups will have the opportunity to attend additional office hours with the lecturer and teaching assistants in English to help master the course materials. Additionally, the lecturer will refer foreign students to the corresponding literature in English, as well as give them the possibility of taking the associated exams in English.

Obtaining insight and knowledge into concepts, methods, techniques, and applications of micropaleontology and the role of this in a broader context of geological studies. By means of case studies of Paleozoic to Recent sediments and microfossils associations, the systematic, utility, and field of application of the various microfossil groups would be demonstrated. The students receive a broad overview of the various methods and microfossil groups that are widely used both in academic research and in the oil and gas industry. The topics are (1) environments: land, sea, and transitional; their distribution, physicochemical properties; ecological; factors that govern them and control the distribution of organisms; (2) Microfossils: skeletal structures, identification, and evolution; (3) Precambrian environment with blue-green bacteria and Archaea; (4) Paleozoic marine environments radiolarians, ostracods, chitinozoa, conodonts and architrachs; (5) Late Paleozoic shallow-marine environments: large benthic foraminifera, green, red algae; (6) Mesozoic marine environments: from the period of "organisms barren" to Cretaceous diversity and richness (planktonic foraminifera, calcareous nanofossils, diatoms and dinoflagellates, algae);(7) Recovery of shallow-water microorganisms after the great extinction to the environments in which they are most numerous and most diverse, to the establishment of environments that are almost similar to modern ones, (8) Modern environments and the microorganisms that inhabit them.
