COURSE GOALS: The main objective of the course is to understand of importance of fundamental researches in the frame of selected topics as well as recognizing their application in industrial chemistry, organic synthesis, biochemistry, material chemistry and environmental chemistry.

Student will be able:

3. to critical scale the presumptions, concepts, data and results of the scientific investigations,

5. to introduce complex ideas clearly and concise,
6. to introduce the results of its own research on scientific and educational meetings,
7. to track by itself development of the new knowledge in chemistry and physics,
8. to take responsibility for its own competence advantage and professional growth.
* Alkyls, aryls and metal hydrides and their application in organic synthesis.
* ?-Complexes (alkene, allyl, diene, cyclopentadienyl, arene complexes).
* Carbene and carbyne metal complexes (synthesis, structure, properties).
* Cluster compounds, metal-metal bond (structure, 18-electron rule, isolobal principle, synthesis).
* Industrially important processes catalyzed by transition metal complexes (hydroformilation of alkenes, alkene oxidation, synthesis of acetic acid, alkene metathesis, polymerization of ethylene and propylene).
* Properties of solids (structure defects, nonstoichiometric compounds, solid electrolytes, cooperative magnetism, superconductivity, glasses).
REQUIREMENTS FOR STUDENTS:
Regular attendance to the course lectures and seminars, seminar essay.
GRADING AND ASSESSING THE WORK OF STUDENTS:
Regular attendance to the course lectures, active participation during the classes, seminar essay and oral presentation, written exam.
