Description:
COURSE GOALS: The main goal of this course is to deepen the knowledge in the field of solid state physics with respect to the basics acquired within the elementary course Selected Topics in Solid State Physics. It is accomplished by writing the seminar paper with given topic within the framework of research and application of modern solid state physics. Student should do an independent literature and web-based resources research to write the seminar paper which then should be publically defended. The aim here is also to give an introduction into way of writing and defending the graduation thesis.

LEARNING OUTCOMES AT THE LEVEL OF THE PROGRAMME:
1. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
1.1. demonstrate a thorough knowledge and understanding of the fundamental laws of classical and modern physics;
1.2. demonstrate a thorough knowledge and understanding of the most important physics theories (logical and mathematical structure, experimental support, described physical phenomena);
2. APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
2.1. identify and describe important aspects of a particular physical phenomenon or problem;
2.2. recognize and follow the logic of arguments, evaluate the adequacy of arguments and construct well supported arguments;
2.3. use mathematical methods to solve standard physics problems;
3. MAKING JUDGMENTS
3.1. develop a critical scientific attitude towards research in general, and in particular by learning to critically evaluate arguments, assumptions, abstract concepts and data;
4. COMMUNICATION SKILLS
4.2. present complex ideas clearly and concisely;
4.3. present their own research results at educational or scientific meetings;
6. LEARNING SKILLS
5.1. search for and use professional literature as well as any other sources of relevant information;
5.2. remain informed of new developments and methods in physics, informatics and education;

LEARNING OUTCOMES SPECIFIC FOR THE COURSE:
After finishing the course, the student will be capable to:
* demonstrate deeper qualitative and quantitative knowledge of chosen topic within the field of solid state physics, studied to accomplish writing of the seminar paper
* demonstrate results of independent literature studying and synthesis of knowledge (books and scientific papers) related to the seminar
* independently write and publically present a work with given topic within the field of solid state physics

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Within the content of this course there are the new directions in research, development and application of modern solid state physics included. Each year a number of current topics within the solid state physics are chosen depending on the number of signed students. Each student is assigned to one topic to study it deeply, using the literature, research papers and web-based resources, and write a seminar paper independently. The course instructor is mentoring this process through consultations and discussions with a student during the course thus controlling and directing his work and progress. At the end of semester all students present and defend their seminar papers publically in front of the course instructor and other students.

REQUIREMENTS FOR STUDENTS:
Students should write a seminar paper and attend the final public presentations of seminars written by other student at this course. Signature requirements for students are written and publically defended seminar paper and attendance at at least 70% of final seminar presentations of other students on this course.

GRADING AND ASSESSING THE WORK OF STUDENTS:
The final grading of a student is based on public presentation and defending of his seminar paper in front of the course instructor and other students on this course. Beside clearly presented seminar paper, student should answer the questions related to his work and demonstrate satisfying level of understanding of matter presented within (5 ECTS).
Literature:
  1. Uz temu seminara studenti dobivaju popis potrebne osnovne literature
  2. internetske baze podataka
9. semester
