The Faculty Council of the Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb (hereinafter: the PMF), pursuant to Article 77 of the Faculty Statutes, announces the following:

C A L L   F O R   A P P L I C A T I O N S

for the appointment  

 

1) Of an associate to the associate category I position – assistant in natural science, the field of chemistry, the branch of organic chemistry, for a fixed term and on a full-time basis, in the framework of the Croatian Science Foundation programme: “Young Researchers’ Career Development – Training New Doctoral Students within investment C3.2 R2-I1 ‘Developing a stimulating career advancement model and conducting leading scientific research in STEM and ICT’ (NPOO-DOK-2023-10)”, to work on the following project: “Machine learning-supported target-directed synthesis of cholinesterase inhibitors”, at the Division of Organic Chemistry of the PMF Department of Chemistry – 1 person.

2) Of an associate to the associate category I position - assistant in natural science, the field of chemistry, the branch of physical chemistry, for a fixed term and on a full-time basis, in the framework of the Croatian Science Foundation programme: “Young Researchers’ Career Development – Training New Doctoral Students within investment C3.2 R2-I1 ‘Developing a stimulating career advancement model and conducting leading scientific research in STEM and ICT’ (NPOO-DOK-2023-10)”, to work on the following project: “Physical chemistry of processes at mineral/(poly)electrolyte solution interface” (IP-2020-02-9571) at the Division of Physical Chemistry of the PMF Department of Chemistry - 1 person.

3) Of an associate to the associate category I position – assistant in natural science, the field of chemistry, the branch of physical chemistry, for a fixed term and on a full-time basis, in the framework of the Croatian Science Foundation programme: “Young Researchers’ Career Development – Training New Doctoral Students within investment C3.2 R2-I1 ‘Developing a stimulating career advancement model and conducting leading scientific research in STEM and ICT’ (NPOO-DOK-2023-10)”, to work on the “Manganese metallosensors” project and the HORIZON project titled: “MI-DNA-DISC” at the Division of Physical Chemistry of the PMF Department of Chemistry – 1 person.

4) Of an associate to the associate category I position - assistant in natural science, the field of chemistry, the branch of organic chemistry, for a fixed term and on a full-time basis, in the framework of the Croatian Science Foundation programme: “Young Researchers’ Career Development – Training New Doctoral Students within investment C3.2 R2-I1 ‘Developing a stimulating career advancement model and conducting leading scientific research in STEM and ICT’ (NPOO-DOK-2023-10)”, to work on the following project: IP-2020-02-4467 “From nitrogen-containing aromatic compounds to new functional organic-based materials” at the Division of Organic Chemistry of the PMF Department of Chemistry – 1 person.

5) Of an associate to the associate category I position - assistant in natural science, the field of chemistry, the branch of inorganic chemistry, for a fixed term and on a full-time basis, in the framework of the Croatian Science Foundation programme: “Young Researchers’ Career Development – Training New Doctoral Students within investment C3.2 R2-I1 ‘Developing a stimulating career advancement model and conducting leading scientific research in STEM and ICT’ (NPOO-DOK-2023-10)”, to work on the following project: “Supramolecular and hybrid metal-organic coordination systems – the cooperative effects and predicting the activity/properties” at the Division of General and Inorganic Chemistry of the PMF Department of Chemistry – 1 person.

6) to the expert category I position - expert advisor in the science and higher education system in natural science, the field of chemistry, the branch of organic chemistry, for an unlimited term and on a full-time basis, at the Division of Organic Chemistry of the PMF Department of Chemistry- 1 person.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS:

The Call is open to applicants of either gender on equal terms.

In addition to the general terms and conditions of employment, for any point of the Call the applicants must satisfy the requirements set out in the Act on Higher Education and Scientific Activity (Official Gazette No 119/22).

 

For all points of the Call, the applicants enclose with their application: a CV, the relevant diploma, an academic transcript of grades received in the undergraduate, graduate or integrated study programme, a proof of citizenship.

 

The applicants for point 1 must satisfy the following conditions:

- to have completed a university graduate or integrated undergraduate and graduate study programme in Chemistry at the University of Zagreb Faculty of Science or other corresponding university graduate study programme;

- to have knowledge and/or work experience in organic chemistry of bioactive compounds, based on the supporting evidence that may include theses or dissertations, relevant scientific conference proceedings and scientific or research papers);

- to be eligible for enrolment in the doctoral study programme in Chemistry at the University of Zagreb Faculty of Science (this requirement is not applicable to the candidates who are already doctoral students – such candidates should enclose a proof of enrolment in the doctoral study programme).

 

The applicants for point 2 must satisfy the following conditions:

  • to have completed a university study programme in chemistry, research-oriented (mag.chem.);  
  • to be eligible for enrolment in the doctoral study programme in Chemistry at the University of Zagreb Faculty of Science (this requirement is not applicable to the candidates who are already doctoral students – such candidates should enclose a proof of enrolment in the doctoral study programme)
  • additional conditions:
  • involvement in the scientific-research work based on the supporting evidence that may include published theses or dissertations, conference proceedings etc.;
  • to have experience related to the examination of the physical-chemical processes on the colloid particle surfaces and in polyelectrolyte solutions, based on the supporting evidence that may include published theses or dissertations, conference proceedings etc.;
  • to have delivered presentations at scientific conferences, based on the evidence that may include published theses or dissertations, conference proceedings etc.

The applicants for point 3 must satisfy the following conditions:

  • to have completed a university graduate study programme in Chemistry or a university graduate study programme in Molecular Biology or a related graduate or integrated study programme;
  • to have knowledge of physical chemistry, based on the supporting evidence that may include an academic transcript of records received in the undergraduate, graduate or the integrated study programme;
  • to be eligible for enrolment in the doctoral study programme in Chemistry of the University of Zagreb Faculty of Science (this requirement is not applicable to the candidates who are already doctoral students – such candidates should enclose a proof of enrolment in the doctoral study programme).

The applicants for point 4 of the Call must satisfy the following conditions:

  • to have completed a university graduate study programme in Chemistry, research-oriented (mag.chem.);
  • to be eligible for enrolment in the doctoral study programme in Chemistry of the University of Zagreb Faculty of Science (this requirement is not applicable to the candidates who are already doctoral students – such candidates should enclose a proof of enrolment in the doctoral study programme):
  • additional conditions:
  • to have participated in the scientific-research work related to the synthesis and characterization of organic compounds, based on the supporting evidence that may include theses or dissertations, papers published in scientific journals etc.).

The applicants for point 5 of the Call must satisfy the following conditions:

  • to have completed a university graduate study programme in Chemistry, research-oriented (mag.chem.);
  • to be eligible for enrolment in the doctoral study programme in Chemistry of the University of Zagreb Faculty of Science (this requirement is not applicable to the candidates who are already doctoral students – such candidates should enclose a proof of enrolment in the doctoral study programme);
  • additional conditions:
  • to have taken part in the scientific-research work related to the metallosupramolecular chemistry or the chemistry of polyoxometalates, based on the supporting evidence that may include theses or dissertations;
  • to have achieved academic or research excellence at the university undergraduate and graduate levels, based on the supporting evidence that may include the awards and honours received, the academic transcript of grades etc.

The applicants for point 6 of the Call must satisfy the following conditions:

  • to have completed a university graduate study programme in Chemistry, research-focused (mag. chem) at the University of Zagreb Faculty of Science;
  • additional conditions:
  • to have had the experience of laboratory work related to the preparation and characterization of organic compounds, based on the supporting evidence that may include theses or dissertations, papers published in scientific journals and conference proceedings);
  • the experience related to the application of the atomic force microscopy (AFM) and the scanning tunnelling microscopy (STM), based on the supporting evidence that may include theses or dissertations, papers published in scientific journals and conference proceedings);

For all points of the Call, the applicants who qualify for employment preference under the special regulations should refer to the preference in their application and enclose therewith all evidence as listed in the special regulations governing the priority placement rights, as well as all evidence of eligibility and of absence of any impediment to their exercising of the priority placement rights as stipulated under the special regulations. Such applicants will be given employment preference within this Call over other candidates, under the same terms and conditions of the Call, based on a duly completed, complete and timely application, provided that they meet all the terms and conditions of the Call and that they have achieved top scores in the selection procedure or the selection procedures.

An application shall be deemed duly completed and complete if it contains all the data and supporting documents in keeping with the Call requirements. Incomplete, disorganised, and late applications shall not be taken into consideration, nor will there be a subsequent invitation to the applicants to amend such applications.

 

Foreign nationals must provide a Croatian language certificate for all points  of the Call.

All the points of this Call are open to the candidates who will be enrolled in the doctoral study programme no later than the academic year 2024/2025 (a later enrolment in a doctoral study programme may be approved in exceptional cases).

 

All the applicants applying for points 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 who are fully eligible under the formal terms and conditions of the Call, shall take part in the pre-selection procedure based on the comparative assessment of the information provided in their respective CVs.

 

Based on the results of the pre-selection procedure, a list of the applicants applying under points 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 will be drafted to be invited for additional selection procedures which may include

  • a written knowledge test focused on the synthesis and characterization of organic compounds;
  • an interview with the applicants.

The applicants will receive an invitation to take part in the first selection procedure. If necessary, the applicants will be invited to take part in the subsequent selection procedures based on the results achieved in the previous selection procedures. The applicants will receive a separate e-mail invitation advising them of the time, place and the method of the selection procedures that they are being invited to take part in.

 

The applicants who fail to attend any of the selection procedures that they were invited to take part in pursuant to a separate invitation, shall be deemed to have withdrawn from the Call proceedings.

 

The PMF collects and processes personal data of the applicants taking part in the Call for Applications for positions with the aim of verifying qualifications and eligibility in accordance with the Decision on the Collection, Protection and Processing of Personal Data (CLASSIFICATION No: 035-01/18-01/5; FILE No:251-58-10201-18-2).

 

The closing date for the submission of applications for points 1, 2, and 3 of the Call is 60 days after the publication of the Call in the Official Gazette.

 

The closing date for the submission of applications for points 4, 5, and 6 of the Call is 30 days after the publication of the Call in the Official Gazette.

 

The results of the Call will be published on the official website of the PMF: www.pmf.unizg.hr (Competitions).
